Anomaly Categories

The following definititions should be used when responding to an on-orbit anomaly, and when following the ANS Response Plan.

Critical

Definition:

• The spacecraft has been reconfigured to a "safe" or non-nominal state (such as a cold restart or safehold) has occurred or is imminent, requiring recovery actions.
• A red limit violation or a thermal/power yellow limit is received.
• There is a loss of science data capture
• There is an inability to monitor the health and safety of the observatory or ground system using automation.

Response:

• FOT response required within 2 hours of alert message distribution.
• Immediate notification to the FOT Technical Lead, MD, ProjectScientist, and the HTSI and NASA SSMO Project Managers are required.

Major

Definition:

No observatory reconfiguration has occured AND one or more of the following is true:

• Science or observatory system or subsystem performance is affected.
• A yellow limit violation has occurred.
• Scheduled operations cannot be met.
• There is a loss of science data capture by two FEPs.
• The ground system is delivering science data without quality comparisons performed or has lost a primary piece of equipment.

Response:

• FOT response required during daylight hours the next calendar day.
• Notification to the FOT Technical Lead and the MD is required following completion of recovery operations.

Minor

Definition:

• No observatory reconfiguration or recovery actions are required
• SEU counter
• Loss of a redundant ground system component.

Response:

• FOT responds during the next scheduled MOC staffed hours
• No notification beyond the FOT on-call is required.
